Assignment 2-A: “20 Bugs”
1.
After 6:00 p.m. or on weekends the RTS bus
system does not work, making students struggle with transportation having to
take an Uber or simply walk home
·
Why? I think it is because they must have a
budget and they can afford to have all the lines for the buses available at
those times
2.
The lack of healthy snacks on campus. When you
are in a rush and you are trying to find something quick and healthy to eat,
you don’t have many options…
·
Why? I think that’s just the culture if someone
is in a rush they just grab a bag of chips or something like that
3.
After 7:00pm there are no many options available
to eat on campus.
·
Why? This might be because classes end at that
time, but what about those who have exams at 8:00pm?
4.
The lack of parking places on campus, which makes
the only way to get to school either by bus or by walking.
·
Why? There is not enough place, the vast
majority of space on campus is occupied by buildings
5.
When someone steals your position in a line. For
example, if you are waiting to order at a fast food restaurant and someone gets
in the line without waiting.
·
Why? In my opinion, this is a lack of education
and respect from that person who gets in line
6. The
waiting time on the telephone line when you are waiting for customer service to
assist you
·
Why? Sometimes this is due to the high demand
and that there are not enough people to assist you.
7.
People who talk in the library even in areas
where they should not do that.
·
Why? I think it's because those people do not
know how to follow the regulations or they just do not care
8.
People who ask for something without saying
"please" or “thanks”
·
Why? Again, I believe this is due to a lack of
education
9.
Spam calls and spam mails. For example, those calls offering life
insurance.
·
Why? It is a strategy to sell, someone with the
need of that insurance may find it helpful
10. People
who do not clean the gym machine after exercising and leave it dirty with their
sweat
·
Why? Because the people who do it are
inconsiderate and think that cleaning the machine they will waste their time
11. It
bothers me that my neighbors upstairs put on very loud music at midnight even
on week days.
·
Why? They do not care about their neighbors
(like me) and they do not follow the rules.
12. It
bothers me that I can only book a maximum of two hours of a study room in
Heavener.
·
Why? I suppose this is with the idea that the
maximum number of people have the opportunity to book a room since there is a
limited amount
13. The
hyperinflation of Venezuela is a problem, in 2018 the inflation was about 1370000%
·
Why? Because of bad economic policies
14. In Venezuela, nobody
respects traffic signals. For example, the red light.
· Why? This is due to the lack of education and awareness with
respect to what the action of not respecting the signal may cause
15. I'm annoyed by the very long ads when I'm
watching a television show that I love
· Why? This occurs because
television channels get large sums of money in exchange for showing an ad, and
even more during the time of a popular show with high ratings
16. People who walk slowly down the street because
they are distracted with the phone
· Why? Honestly, it's
irresponsible, but I'm sure I've done it myself.
17. It bothers me when there are no gloves at the
gas station to pump the gas.
· Why? Because some gas
stations have gloves, others have paper towel… it depends on the gas station
18. When the people at the gym last longer than
they should in the cardio machines when there is usually a limit of maximum 20
minutes
· Why? This happens because
nobody checks that people do not last so long in the machines if there are
people waiting. Besides, it is very difficult to carry that kind of control
19. It bothers me that every time my roommates
or I cook, the smell of food is inside the apartment for a few days
· Why? It is due to the lack
of ventilation in the apartment, there are only two windows that can be opened
20. When I go to the
hairdresser and I say you just want to cut the tips of my hair and they cut 6
inches
· Why? Because often hairdressers
get carried away and do not pay attention to what their customers really want.
Reflection:
It wasn’t that hard for me to find “the bugs” but it was hard to
find why that bug exists. I think this assignment was helpful because it made
me realize things about my days that I usually don’t see and ask why that
happens or exists.
Hi Maria!
ReplyDeleteGood job on your bug list. After reading your bugs, I realized how many more I could have added to my list. I can definitely relate to #2, as I am always looking for healthy meal options but many of which are not convenient and much more expensive than just going to the nearest Chic Fil A. I also get frustrated by just reading your 7th bug, as it drives me crazy when people are loud in the library. You'd think it'd be common knowledge not to make a lot of noise, but I guess some people still have a lot to learn. Lastly, #12. I am actually writing this comment in a Heavener study room as my time is almost up, wishing I had more time to finish these peer reviews. Overall, great job!
Hi Maria,
ReplyDeleteI found all of your bugs extremely relatable! I especially relate to your bug #10 as I also find it gross when people do not clean the gym machines after using them. Something that is so simple and takes no time can be such a hassle for some people, demonstrating how inconsiderate they are of others. Additionally, I really related to bug #20 because last year I went to get my hair TRIMMED three inches and the hairdresser cut about five inches off and in a diagonal! I refuse to go to a hairdresser ever again. I really enjoyed reading your bugs and was also recently frustrated by a pedestrian walking at a pace below a snail because he was looking at his phone. Overall I thought you did a fantastic job!
Hi Maria:
ReplyDeleteI really liked your observations, I do not know how I did not think about the first few observations. I agree that on campus we face problems like the lack of healthy snacks and parking spaces. Also, I feel very related to the problem in Venezuela, I am Cuban and we, as a country, are going through a rough period where salaries and prices of essential things do not match up, and where driving has become a hell. About #17, I have to tell you that I did not even know that there were gloves at gas stations to pump the gas. Good job!
Hey Maria, after reading your first bug I knew the list was going to be very relatable. Going through each one I noticed myself getting annoyed at the thought of these things happening to me. Great job identifying your bugs and expressing them in a relatable way for your peers to connect with. Good luck through the rest of the semester!
ReplyDeleteTo start off great bug list. I enjoyed how each one was diverse and on another spectrum. As someone who goes out to enjoy the night life of Gainesville, I thought your first bug about the RTS bus system stopping at 6pm on weekends. I believe that the stayed open later less people would get involved in drinking driving or wandering through the night due to the fact they didn’t want/couldn’t pay for an Uber. Another one that I felt on a personal level was when someone cuts you in line for number bug number 5. That is one of my largest pet peeves and it stinks but because you can either yell at the person or just ignore it, but usually not resulting in much change. I noticed for some of your bugs were based on germs such as gym equipment being wiped down which makes sense or gloves at gas stations to pump gas, which I never have seen. I think certain things like that are kind of hard to change because a small portion of people care about germs that much and those who do would probably keep latex gloves in their console in the car. The only feedback I would give is large political thins like inflation in a foreign country does not usually have much opportunity for business.
